Where Is Now?
Maq Masi
Day after day, day before day,
Today slips past and fades away.
Yesterday’s sorrow, tomorrow’s fear,
And fleeting moments that disappear.
Yesterday’s gone, beyond recall,
A fading echo, a crumbling wall.
The past lies silent, distant, lost,
Its memories gathered in frost.
Today brings stress, or joy untold,
A tender warmth, a heart grown cold.
We grasp the moment, hold it tight,
Yet watch it vanish out of sight.
Tomorrow beckons, veiled from view,
With anxious doubts or dreams anew.
We fear the dark, anticipate light,
And chase the dawn throughout the night.
Each moment poses, supposes, opposes,
A bud unfolds, a flower closes.
What seems to stay begins to flee,
What seems to be, ceases to be.
The future emerges, the present is felt,
The past slips away, as the moments melt.
A breath, a flame, a shadow cast,
A future born, a present past.
We mourn what was, we fear what may,
And lose the gift of yesterday’s today.
In search of tomorrow, we hurry along,
While the present escapes in a word, in a song.
Day after day, day before day,
We live, we lose, we drift away.
Yesterday is gone, tomorrow unknown—
Where is now, when now is gone?
Where is now, when moments flee?
What is time, and what are we?
A fleeting breath, a passing glow—
Here for a moment, then where do we go?
